The Bishops Daughter

One day, I was walking, in Wandsworth, by the Wandle river, canalised there. I saw a girl of about 13 floundering in the water and because the walls of the canal were steep he could not climb out, so I foolishly went down to the canal, I was on a bridge, and lent her my hand and pulled her out.

Now the girl who I did not know and I said, do not tell, because according to the law, only officers or nobleman can rescue otherwise I will be criminalised.

Now the Bishop, who is a wealthy land owner, although pleased off his daughters life that was saved, was angry that a working class man and an anathema had rescued his daughter.

So he wants me on the street "get of my land" is what he said, the ungrateful pig!

That is the English Nobility - "Keeping up appearances".

This was about ten years ago and he's only just found out and never knew who it was until he told me.
